Haverfordwest Central Mosque is raising funds purchase solar panels in order to generate their own green electricity. This will also support energy the rising energy costs.

Story

The brothers and sisters of Liverpool are coming together to support the Haverfordwest Central Mosque to enable them to purchase solar panels so they can generate their own electricity.  This is because the mosque has been experiencing considerable difficulty in meeting the rising cost of energy bills. The Muslim community of Haverfordwest is growing but is of very little means. This is a very special challenge, one that will help who participates in this world and the Akhira.

We need to raise £50K by 30th June 2023 to purchase which allow the mosque to generate as much electricity as was consumed this Ramadan. This will take a lot of financial strain off the mosque. We would like to purchase solar panels so that:The mosque can generate its own electricity It can  potentially serve as an income stream

Until a year ago Haverfordwest, a town in Pembrokeshire, South Wales (a stunning holiday resort. It has beautiful clean heritage beaches, Castles and Lily Ponds) did not have a masjid. Hard to believe when you’ve grown up and lived in cities where there have been mosques on every corner. Local Muslim men would pray in a small flat above an Indian restaurant run by local brothers. There were no facilities for women.

Funds were raised during lockdown to buy the old Haverfordwest council offices of Births, Marriages and Deaths to set up the first ever masjid. It opened last Ramadan. There are 3 buildings (only one is used for now) with a car and a lot of potential. It is old so still needs a lot of work but at least they now have the space.

Already, in its first year there are two prayer halls, a madrasa,  a cool youth centre and community centre with lots of games, a large screen for playing games and watching sports. The community have celebrated Eid’s at the mosque since its opening. Each family brings a dish and enjoys Eid day at the mosque. It is also a ‘warm space’ for the refugee rich community.

The great thing is both men and women are able to participate in mosque and community activities. They want the mosque to be a fun environment for the children. Somewhere, where they can learn and practice Islam and also make friends and play.

In the coming years they would like to open a mother and toddler club; a community cafe, youth hostel and a morgue (currently the closest one is an hour away) but need to be able to run the building first. You can visit and see for yourself all the good work that is being done.🙂

These donations will be zakat and sadakah eligible. So even Ii you would like to do something for a loved one who has passed this is also a great opportunity.

Let’s show the community of Haverfordwest that we stand with them in their hardship and support them in all the good work they are doing and their plans for the future.

Please share this link widely and do what you can to help. 🙂
