Tilly faces their fear of heights for first steps ED

Bungee jump! · 6 July 2025
First Steps ED supports children, their families, young people and adults affected by eating difficulties and disorders. We work across the UK offering care and support by providing coping strategies and recovery services to people of all ages, genders and backgrounds.
When I was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa in 2022, first steps was the place I turned to for support. Having struggled with CAMHS and made little progress, it took a team of dedicated, experienced individuals to remind me why life outside of the eating disorder was better than life in it and that's what first steps did. First steps saved my life, there is no other way to say that, and I aspire to join them in their mission to raise awareness and funding for eating disorders. Having fully recovered and now doing my A levels, I spend a lot of my (admittedly scarce) free time advocating for the awareness of eating disorders, using my poetry and writing for first steps to start conversations about topics that may seem difficult or stressful to help people face their fears.
To practice what I preach, so to speak, I have decided to do this bungee jump. I have always been scared of heights. I can do a roller coaster just fine but try and get me on what on those drop towers and you'll see how scared I am. But these irrational fears are what keep us from changing, from recovering from the disorders or from doing things we enjoy. So when I'm jumping off that crane, just know that I'm telling you, that nothing bad can come from facing your fears, so make that leap and ask for help.
