Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

The Bury Children's Physiotherapy Team have started a project to raise £10,000 to develop a sensory room in the Bury Living Well Centre. We have already secured £2500 towards the project but we’ve still got a long way to go!

One of our challenges is the Yorkshire Three Peaks. Lyndsey, Tamara, Jen, Kieran, Garry, Carl and Matt are taking part in Manchester's iconic event with #TeamNorthCare. Bayla will also be rowing the distance of the Yorkshire Three Peaks.

Over the next few months we will be planning more events.

The room will be available to book for all patients and can be used as a treatment space or as a waiting area for children who would benefit from the sensory environment. We believe it's going to make a massive difference to the outcomes of our sessions for our children and young people with neurodiversity who just cannot cope with the noisy/echo-y rooms we have. The room will be a safe space for children to explore and will encourage fine, gross motor and perceptual skill development. It will also be an environment to improve visual, auditory and tactile processing.

A comment from one of our parents:

Noah has a diagnosis of ASD and struggles to attend appointments as he can become overwhelmed by people, loud noises and busy environments. Noah can become distressed and upset quickly in this environment and will shy away from interacting with his therapist which makes session unsuccessful and stressful for myself and Noah as I hate putting him in this position. Noah would greatly benefit from having a quiet space to wait in and a space where he is able to express himself and be his happy, excitable, and smiley self. This would make his therapy sessions more successful and allow him to leave the session without stress and looking forward to returning. This would be a fantastic addition to the physiotherapy service who already work hard to be inclusive to all children and have worked hard to make the building more accessible with the addition of the new fully accessible disabled toilet.

If you would like to donate towards the room, we would greatly appreciate it.

Many Thanks,

Bury Children's Therapy Team
