As Reed’s pupils, we understand how transformative a good education can be which is why we feel very lucky to be part of the Reed’s Calabash 2023 team. Since 2006, pupils have travelled to Gqeberha, South Africa to work in township primary schools to complete various projects including murals, sports facilities, a library, a playground, paving projects and a permaculture garden.

Over the years, Reed's pupils have raised over £75,000 for the Calabash Trust UK to fund these projects.  This year we will be based in the small rural community of Pearston near Gqeberha. We will be working in partnership with Calabash Trust UK and Cultural Connections in a community club called Sophakama which the children from the local area use after school and in the holidays participating in a variety of programmes. Whilst there, we will be working to improve the physical fabric of the club as well as engaging with the wider community and primary schools in the town. The work will be managed and delivered by Reed’s students working with the local community.  

Our aim this year is to raise over £6,000 with the support of family, friends and colleagues and by organising a range of challenges and events (see updates below for details). We would be so grateful for any donation, no matter how small. All donations will go directly to fund our projects.
