Athena is taking part in Make Waves for Marwell’s Penguins, a sponsored swim with World of Swimming and Marwell Wildlife, to help support the Humboldt penguins at Marwell Zoo.

The max challenge available to choose is to swim 1 mile (which is 64 lengths), however she wants to push herself further to try to raise as much money for this incredible cause as possible…..so instead, she is aiming to swim 2.5km which will be 100 lengths!

Humboldt penguins are incredible swimmers. In the wild, they swim against ocean currents, helping them stay strong, active and healthy.

At Marwell, the team are always looking for creative ways to enhance the lives of animals. After a successful trial last year, plans are underway to install a permanent flow cannon in the penguin pool. This will introduce a gentle current for the penguins to swim against - adding an extra development that encourages natural behaviours and activity.
