I have chosen to run the Solway Coast Marathon on June 30th, 2024 to help my band, the Broxburn and Livingston Brass Band, achieve our dream of representing Scotland at the National Finals. This will be my first marathon and I have been training since March, steadily increasing my running mileage week by week. As I prepare for my final long training run of 34km next weekend before the 'taper' period begins, any form of encouragement - whether financial or verbal - would be immensely appreciated. Your support will not only help me through the last month of training and the race itself but also bring B&L Band closer to achieving our dream at the Nationals.

In March, Broxburn and Livingston Brass Band gained qualification to represent Scotland at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain in Cheltenham in September. It quickly became apparent that taking a Brass Band on an international tour(!) requires a substantial amount of funding.

To contribute to this cause, I made the commitment to run a marathon (42.2km/26.2 miles) to raise funds to support our journey to the Nationals. The expenses involved in such a significant trip include music, conducting team, rehearsal venue hire, percussion hire, bus and accommodation costs.

PS - Team Dickson head straight from the marathon finish line to camping for a week so any pity pounds here also very gratefully received!!
