Story
This September I'm walking one mile a day to help raise vital funds to purchase a Safe Space bed for children with additional needs who use Seaview's short break services.
Hi there, my name is Cathy Raeburn and I’m the parent of a young man who used to go to Seaview as a child. He is now 30 years old and living in his own house with 24 hour support.
Seaview did so much for my son. He was very well nurtured and cared for. They were there when I needed practical support, and I don’t know how I would have coped without them.
When I discovered Friends of Seaview, I wanted to give something back. I learned how important fundraising is to maintain spaces like the sensory garden and to support the unit more broadly.
So I decided to take on a challenge: walking a mile a day to help raise money for a safe space bed. I believe it’s something many people can take part in, and together we can make a real difference. I hope others will join me in raising funds for this badly needed equipment.
Seaview Centre provides specialist care and support for children and young people with complex needs. The team offers tailored short stays and residential breaks in a safe, nurturing environment. These stays give young people enriching new experiences while providing families with essential support when they need it most.
Friends of Seaview is the dedicated charity that raises funds to enhance what the centre can offer. Currently they are raising money to make a vital purchase of a safe space bed, this is something that will make a major difference to the daily lives of the young people who stay at Seaview. For children with complex needs a standard bed often isn't enough to keep them safe or calm. A safe space bed is a custom built, soft walled environment designed specifically for young people who may be at risk of hurting themselves.
