All island children should have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of sailing. The Isle of Wight has some of the most deprived communities in the country, with families struggling to give their children opportunities that we often take for granted.

Everyone who knows me knows that I love the Isle of Wight. My own children have gained so much through being out of the water and we all consciously appreciate how lucky we are to see how sport, camaraderie, friendly competition and responsibility influence our well-being.

A sailing lesson for a local Year 5 child costs £32. In every class of children who can take a term of sailing lessons, one or two will be so inspired or enabled that it may well change the outlook for their life ahead.

By completing this IOW Half Marathon run I want to provide 100 individual sailing lessons (that's around one lesson for every 90 seconds I am running). Please do help me achieve this if you are willing.

My only previous half marathon attempts were in 2011 and 2012 so you can imagine the work I'm putting into this now to get to the level of (hopefully) running the whole race with a less compliant body.
