Story
Ride Across Britain - I will be riding from Lands End to John O'Groats over the course of 9 days in September 2024 to raise funds for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, founded by the late Scottish rugby player Doddie Weir, who announced his Motor Neuron Disease (MND) in 2017. This organisation funds research for effective treatment for MND and is committed to A World Free of MND.
For those who do not know, MND is a progressive neurological condition that most commonly arises in adults aged 40 and above. As a physiotherapy student I have worked very closely with MND patients, particularly in a ventilation unit in the south of Manchester. This disease affects muscles throughout the body, limiting patients' ability to speak, eat, breath and move. Due to the progressive nature of the condition, once a diagnosis of MND is made there is currently no cure. Life expectancy significantly decreases, leading to the loss of loved ones and an irreplaceable hole in people's lives. Seeing first hand the impact this horrible condition has on both patients and their families I have a deep motivation to raise funds for this amazing charity.
With your help, whether its donations or cheering myself and the Babble RABble along the way, patients and their families as well as healthcare professionals will be provided with necessary support in the management of this condition. Donations will play a crucial role in research around this disease, and will help in achieving the goal of a cure.
The challenge: Babble's Ride Across Britain is a 9 day bike ride starting in Lands End of Cornwall and finishing in John O'Groats in Scotland. We will cover 980 miles, crossing some of the countries most spectacular scenery and landmarks, all in the name of Doddie Weir's amazing foundation. Please share this story and help me towards a £2,500 target, to combat a truly heart-breaking disease.
Thank you
