Story

Hi!

We’re Charlotte and Kat and we have taken on the hardest challenge of our lives and are going to run the TCS London Marathon 2025!

If you know us, you'll know that right now we are a LONG way from marathon ready - but this is why your support means even more to us! It's going to be so tough just to get to the start line, so knowing that we have your support will keep us putting one foot in front of the other - from now until April 27th 2025!

HOW WE GOT HERE:

We first met in Year 7, and realized that if one of us suggested something - the other was going to sign up too! A real case of 'If your friend jumped off a cliff, would you do it too?!' YES!! We really would! So since then, we have signed up to, and very much 'winged', numerous activities and challenges ranging from the Race for Life 5k, Surf School, and Zumbathon, to the 26 miles Moon Walk across London.

Over the past few years we seemed to have learned our lessons and signed up to fewer challenges that required training! But we've still taken on some pretty epic events, including the Royal Ramble 20 mile walk (Charlotte) and the Ride London 100 mile ride (Kat).

Then, this year, without knowing the other had, we both entered the Ballot for the London Marathon 2025. As soon as we realized what we had done we made a Pact - if EITHER one of us got a ballot spot, the other one would get a charity place!

I'm going to be honest - we both prayed SO hard that we wouldn't be chosen! But Kat got a ballot place, and this meant Charlotte had to choose a charity to run for!

We've chosen the Martlets charity as the support they offer for people affected by terminal illness can make such a difference to those individuals and their families.

Unlike national charities, Martlets are a relatively small charity who cover the Brighton and Hove areas and this means that when you support us with ANY donation it will make a MASSIVE impact to the people who come in to contact with the charity!

We have no delusions that we will be able to ‘wing’ a marathon, and so this time we’re going to SMASH the training stage, and that starts right now! First we need to crack the couch to 5k, then it’s onward and upwards from there!

We know that you'll be cheering us on the whole way, and to pay you back for this we're going to share our training journey on Instagram! It'll be hilarious, ridiculous, and probably a little bit embarrassing at times, but it will keep us accountable, and all of the *hopefully* lovely comments will keep us running!

FROM MARTLETS:

Martlets is a local charity providing essential care to people affected by terminal illness in Brighton and Hove, and surrounding areas. Our expert teams provide the very best care and support, helping patients and their loved ones to live life to the full during the precious time they have together.

Most people receive care from us in their own homes. Others choose to spend their final days on our inpatient unit, or to join us as inpatients for respite care or symptom management. Outpatients also visit our hospice for pain relief, physiotherapy, counselling, welfare advice and social activities; some of these services were adapted during the COVID pandemic and continue to be offered via telephone and online video sessions.

Martlets care is free thanks to the support of local people, businesses, and trusts. An NHS grant covers a portion of our costs, but we rely on the community to fund most of our vital services.
