Macie’s fundraiser for Childhood Tumour Trust

Team Macie is raising money for Childhood Tumour Trust

Marathon a day in May

We are a small organisation committed to improving the lives of children and young people with Neurofibromatosis Type 1 by giving them the opportunity to meet others with the condition at specially arranged camps. We also aim to organise days out for families and fund research

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In May, a group of us will be taking on a challenge that will truly push us out of our comfort zones. Together, we are aiming to complete the distance of a marathon every single day for all 31 days of the month. That’s 26.2 miles a day — but not alone. We’ll be sharing the distance between us, each contributing what we can to reach that daily total.

We are not athletes. We are parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, cousins, and friends. For us, this will be tough. There will be tired legs, early mornings, and days where motivation is hard to find. But that’s the point.

Because this challenge is about something far bigger than us.

In November 2025, our world changed when our beautiful 5-year-old daughter, Macie, was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). Since then, she has also developed epilepsy and a brain tumour as a result of this condition.

Although her condition is currently stable, NF1 is lifelong, and the future challenges she’s faces are uncertain. At just five years old, Macie is already facing more hospital visits than most of us will in a lifetime. She is under the care of five different specialists for one condition.

And yet, she continues to amaze us every single day.

Macie is a true warrior. She doesn’t let her diagnosis define her or stop her from being a happy, fun-loving little girl. She plays, laughs, and lives life just like any other five-year-old — with courage that inspires everyone around her.

As parents, hearing her diagnosis was devastating. There are no words to fully describe the fear and uncertainty that comes with it. But instead of letting it defeat us, we’ve chosen to do something positive — something that reflects, in a small way, the strength and resilience Macie shows every day.

We have chosen to take on this challenge in May because the 17th of May marks NF1 Awareness Day — a day dedicated to raising understanding and support for those affected by this condition. It felt like the most meaningful time to push ourselves and shine a light on this rare and unknown condition.

This challenge isn’t meant to be easy. It’s meant to be hard. It’s meant to remind us, with every step, of the daily challenges Macie faces — challenges she takes on with bravery far beyond her years.

We are raising money for the Child Tumour Trust, a charity that provides vital support to families like ours and funds important research into conditions like NF1.

Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help make a difference — not just for Macie, but for so many other children and families facing similar battles.

Thank you for supporting us, and for standing with Macie on this journey.
