Orla's Story
Orla has suffered from a very young age with her skin, always a little bit dry but managed through the GP with creams and steroids. Then COVID-19 hit! Orla's skin spiralled out of control. It became incredibly dry, it cracked, it bled, it became infected. There wasn't a patch of her body that wasn't affected. We got used to the 2am wake up calls, walking in to blood soaked sheets and a little girl who was possessed by scratching her skin to pieces. There were no face to face GP appointments available.
One day we stumbled upon EOS a charity set up to support parents and children suffering day to day with debilitating eczema. We joined their Facebook page and found out that there are so many other families out there with children just like Orla. We finally got a face to face appointment and a referral to dermatology and specialists who said Orla's skin was one of the worst cases they had seen. She was diagnosed with Atopic Dermatitis.
Orla's skin has been mostly stable for the last 2.5 years due to the enduring immunosuppressive medication she takes daily, the monthly blood tests and the various lotions and potions needed alongside this. Throughout this whole journey EOS and their supporters have been their to offer support and guidance, when you wake at ridiculous times in the night to question whether you're doing the right thing ,there's always someone there to put your mind at ease. Orla also gets the support of other children her age going through the same experiences.
So this May we will walk 50miles to raise funds for EOS to continue to support families just like ours!
