Story
Chief Nation is raising money for The Fostering Network in support of Campaign Manager, Melissa, who grew up in the system for 11 years.
A note from Melissa
Did you know that over 82,000 children are in foster care in the UK? 63% of these are in care due to abuse and neglect, and one out of every five will lack a home when they turn 18.
I grew up in foster care from the age of nine. During my time within the system, I had more than 15 caseworkers. Most of those, I met only once. Foster care is a wholly underfunded system that is not discussed enough, and we'd like to change that.
Children in care are regularly moved from home to home, disrupting their emotional development and daily lives. More often than that, foster carers receive no training on the mental health barriers that foster children face, and there aren't enough caseworkers or support to ensure the system runs as it should.
The Chief Nation team has chosen to support The Fostering Network; a charity dedicated to enriching, empowering and restoring vital bonds between those who offer love, warmth, stability and hope for foster children and young people. Their work helps amplify the voices of the children and young people placed at the centre of Government plans, empowering the community to meet the unique needs of every child and young person. Please donate what you can.
