Chloe's fundraiser for Alcohol Change UK

Brighton Half Marathon 2025 · 2 March 2025 ·
Hello everyone.
I have signed up to run the Brighton half marathon in March 2025 with the aim to raise money for the charity Alcohol Change.
Those close to me know that I lost my beautiful granny aged 56 in 2019 to alcohol addiction. She was the kindest, most selfless woman. As both my parents worked when I was little she would look after us every day and became our 2nd mum. Her life story is not mine to tell, but she did not have the easiest life and as a result alcohol unfortunately took her away from us. I want to raise money in memory of her and to donate to a wonderful charity that can help others struggling with alcohol addiction.
Alcohol addiction kills 1 person every hour in the UK, something I believe is not talked about enough. Alcohol change ‘aim to build a future in which people drink as a conscious choice, not a default; where the issues which lead to alcohol problems like poverty, mental health issues, homelessness are addressed; where those of us who drink too much, and our loved ones, have access to high-quality support whenever we need it, without shame or stigma.’
Yes I do drink, but I now have a healthy relationship with alcohol. At one point in my life I was using it everyday to suppress my emotions and deal with my anxiety. I feel many people in todays society have also used alcohol for them same reasons at some point in their life or currently.
A donation of £20 could support around 20 people to reduce their drinking through Dry January.
A donation of £30 could help Alcohol Change deliver and develop more training for front line workers and improve support for dependant drinkers.
A donation of £40 could cover the costs of supporting 16 people for six months to reduce their drinking through the Try Dry app.
Those who know me well know I wouldn’t even run for a bus 20m away at the beginning of the year🤣 I started my running journey with couch to 5K in March. The furthest I have ever ran at this point in time is 8K. This is going to be one of the biggest challenges I have ever set myself, so any donations would be absolutely amazing! I will be documenting my runs on my Strava to hold myself accountable. If anyone wants to follow my journey my Strava is ‘Chloe Pizzey’.
Granny would think I am absolutely insane challenging myself to do this as I used to find any excuse not to do P.E at school!
Thank you for reading my story.
Granny I miss you and hope I am making you proud xxx
Chloe :)
