Farmstrong Fundraiser at the Falkirk Wheel

Chris Dixon is raising money for Farmstrong Scotland

Farmstrong Fundraiser at the Falkirk Wheel · 22 March 2026 ·

A brand-new experience for Farmstrong Scotland: an abseil off the only rotating boat lift in the world, 100ft from the top, all to help support the wellbeing of Scotland’s agricultural community.

Story

I will be abseiling down from the Aqueduct that is the Falkirk Wheel on March 22nd for Farmstrong Scotland.

As a GP working in a rural practice in South Lanarkshire I'm delighted to be able to support the excellent work done by Farmstrong in Scotland.

Since moving to Peebleshire, the vital role Farmers play in the local community is clear, while as a GP I can see the huge pressures that they are currently facing.

I have witnessed the strain placed on the farming community and the impact that this can have on physical and mental health.

Farmstrong, by focusing on practical peer support and wellbeing, is an invaluable resource for a profession which often has isolation and other barriers to seeking help when needed. Particularly in rural areas, where the wider pressures faced by the NHS can be keenly felt.

Beyond this, the opportunity to abseil down the Falkirk wheel is one I can't miss - with my father involved in bringing the project to completion, it is a wonderful Scottish landmark that our family feel a strong personal connection to.

You will find me descending the 100 foot drop, from the top of the world's only rotating boat lift all in aid of a great charity!

Farmstrong Scotland is an initiative to help farmers, crofters, and those in the agricultural community, cope with the ups and downs of farming and crofting. It is a peer-to-peer led programme, driven by scientific information and real-life stories, so together we can share, learn and support our wellbeing.
