Story
On the 28th of September, I will be running the Loch Ness Marathon to raise money for The Brightwell, a charitable organisation based in Bradley Stoke, Bristol. They supported my uncle Nick after he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) back in 2008. Nick lived with MS for many years with incredible stoicism and humour, never complaining and always ready with a joke. The Brightwell helped him through that by offering care and therapies that made a real difference to his life. This challenge was originally meant to be for him, but sadly, he passed away in August following a cancer diagnosis. Before his illness, Nick was an extremely active person who loved adventurous sports such as snowboarding, wakeboarding, and mountain biking, to name but a few. Therefore, I thought it would only be suitable to take on some kind of physical challenge myself, and a marathon felt the right way to do it.
About the Brightwell
The Brightwell is a fantastic, non-clinical wellbeing centre, covering the south west, that supports people living with neurological conditions such as MS, Parkinson’s and Motor Neurones Disease (MND). They offer a wide range of therapies, including physiotherapy, oxygen therapy, counselling, and more, all aimed at improving quality of life and promoting independence. The Centre receives less than 1% of its funding via statutory means and relies heavily on donations to continue its vital work. Every contribution helps them provide life-changing support in a warm, friendly, and inclusive community. Any sponsorship, no matter how big or small, would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for any support you can give to this incredible charity!
