Story
On May 10th, I will be running the Bristol 10k to fundraise for bigmoose - an incredible charity which is very close to my heart and here's why.
Over the years, I've constantly battled on/off with mental health and towards the end of 2025, I hit a bit of a breaking point and went through a mental health crisis. I was completely burnt out. I was in a dark place and was struggling with self-harm and an eating disorder and could not see a way out. I reached out for help and had some incredible support from the NHS; however, (as many people know) NHS waiting lists for 1-1 support can be long, even when you're in a crisis.
I had a few friends recommend I reach out to bigmoose, and so I did. Within two days, I was matched with a therapist and within a week, I had my first 1-1 therapy appointment. And what's incredible about bigmoose is you can access therapy for free!! For many people, therapy is completely inaccessible due to the cost. Access to mental health support should not be a luxury good. bigmoose is an incredible charity which can offer therapy quickly and for free. My therapy through bigmoose really helped me get out of a very dark place. It gave me strategies and tools to help me start my ED recovery journey and become clean from self-harm.
I'm in such a better place now and feel like I'm finally getting my spark back, and a big part of that is thanks to bigmoose.
Unfortunately, due to my mental health crisis, I had to decide in December 2025 to drop out of the March 2026 Lisbon half-marathon. I was underfuelled for a half-marathon training block, and I needed to prioritise recovery. It was a really difficult decision, as completing the SuperHalfs series is a big aspiration of mine, but it was absolutely the right choice.
Now I'm in a much better place, I wanted to do something to give back to the charity which supported me so much in my recovery journey. I felt Bristol 10k would be a fantastic opportunity to fundraise, and an excellent race to start with, now I'm feeling so much less anxious and ready to start running again.
I would really appreciate any donations towards this amazing charity! Let's help more people access the mental health support they need and deserve.
