Barefoot Coastal Walk for FareShare Cymru

Barefoot walking the Welsh Coastal Path (870 miles)
When I set out on June 2nd to walk the entire 870-mile Wales Coast Path barefoot for FareShare Cymru, I envisioned an epic, unyielding journey. I wanted to push my limits, connect deeply with the land, and raise vital funds to fight food poverty across Wales.
What I didn't fully grasp was just how much this journey would test my resilience – physically, mentally, and even financially.
Just 11 days and 97 miles in, my body sent a clear message: my feet, stripped of skin from from the relentless terrain, needed to heal. I returned home, patched up, and started again, alternating between shoes and barefoot to protect myself.
Then, just 8 days into my second stretch, previously noticed shooting pains around my heart began to intensify and become more frequent, forcing another halt. I'm currently at home, awaiting thorough professional medical advise, grappling with the uncertainty of what this means for the remainder of the walk.
Beyond the physical setbacks, this challenge has brought unexpected financial stagnancy. I've spent more than double what we've raised so far to make this expedition possible. And while every single donation means the world, the journey to hit our £5/mile target (that's just 7% met, so far) has been much tougher than I anticipated, with social media traction proving difficult to gather.
As it stands, I'm at 220 out of 870 miles, with 112 of those incredible miles walked barefoot.

But it's clear, I cannot do this alone.
Despite these hurdles, my resolve remains unshaken. Every ache and every stretch, pales in comparison to the urgent need for FareShare Cymru's work. They redistribute surplus food to charities and community groups across Wales, providing vital meals to those who need it most.
Every £1 raised provides 4 meals – that is tangible, immediate impact.
This walk isn't just about reaching a finish line; it's about raising awareness, demonstrating perseverance, and showing that even when faced with overwhelming obstacles, we can push ourselves to fight for what is right.
This isn't just my walk anymore; it's a testament to what we, the greater community, can achieve when we come together. I'm asking for your help to:
* Share our story: Help us gain the momentum we need to reach more people.
* Fuel the mission: Bridge the financial gap and keep food flowing into our local communities.
Whether it's £1 for a family of 4, £5 to cover a mile, £25 for 100 meals, or simply sharing this page, your contribution is invaluable.
Every penny and every share, brings us closer to the finish line and provides crucial support for FareShare Cymru.
