Story

As always I want to raise awareness and funds for this fantastic charity. The hospital saves so many young peoples lives and supports families going through the toughest of times. They saved my nephew Owen and Lucy my adopted niece! To see them happy and living life drives my passion to support. Now having 2 kids it gives me piece of mind that there are hospitals out there which specialise in looking after kids in their darkest times. Your money goes directly to the hospital and supports the purchase of equipment and funds to support families. We are now at £8400 and I want us to hit £10,000 by the end of the year. So over the next 4 months......

Solo summit of Mount Teide (3715m) starting from Montana Blanca carpark (2356m). Sometime between 18th & 27th March.

Summit Pico Viejo (3135m) with Cameron starting from Parador de las Canadas del Teide (2000m). Sometime between 18th & 27th March.

Solo Summit Ben Nevis at midnight, route TBC (1345m) Sometime before July.

Summit Ben Nevis with Cameron (1345m) from the Ben Nevis visitor centre (20m above sea level). Sometime before July.

Complete Edinburgh Marathon 26.2 miles on the 26th May.

Last year I completed the pinnacle of my fundraising events which is great but then I need to raise the game. I’ve decided to do 5 events in one fundraiser over 4 months. Teide and Pico Viejo will be super tough especially as I didn’t make it to the summit 2 years ago with Faye.

Here's Lucy's story:

After 5 rounds of IVF and 3 miscarriages, we finally fell pregnant with our miracle baby. And that is exactly what Lucy is.

Hearing our longed for baby's heart beat for the first time was the best moment in our life so far! As long as there was a heartbeat then our baby was okay! Or so we naively thought! We found out at 23 weeks that Lucy's heart hadn't developed properly. We were devastated but we knew we had to find out as much as we could about her condition and prepare ourselves for the future.

Lucy was born in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow. Shortly after birth she was taken to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Glasgow Children's Hospital where her main diagnosis of Double Inlet Left Ventricle was made (in basic terms, she only had half a heart).

At 18 weeks old Lucy underwent her first open heart surgery at the same hospital. The 17th March 2016 was the longest, hardest day of our lives as we waited patiently for news from the Surgeon. The relief we felt when she arrived back in recovery was quite overwhelming and seeing her with all the tubes and machines was scary but at least she had survived and her surgery had gone as well as could be expected.

Lucy is now 8 and continues to thrive. She attends the Children's Hospital for regular reviews and had her open heart Fontan surgery during lockdown.

The staff at the hospital are nothing short of amazing. From the day we found out about Lucy's condition to now, everyone we have met has helped us to be confident in caring for Lucy and we honestly couldn't trust them more!

We have so much to thank them for and words are not enough but hopefully we can help raise a little bit for their charity to help them to continue to support our warrior children and their families.
