My London Marathon Story: Running for a Future Without FH
Three generations of my family, my dad, grandad, and great grandad, all died from Familial Hypercholesterolemia. FH is a genetic condition that causes dangerously high cholesterol and greatly increases the risk of early heart disease. My dad was only 52 when he died.
With three generations of males succumbing to the condition, it was almost certain that I would also inherit FH. But I was extremely lucky. My sister, Joanna, unfortunately was diagnosed with symptoms of FH and while she’s doing everything she can to stay healthy, the risks are still very real and for that reason I can't just stand still.
Running 26.2 miles is nothing compared to the lifelong journey faced by those who suffer with FH and their families. I’m running to honour my dad, grandad, and great grandad. I’m running to support my sister. And I’m running in hope for my family's future, that one day, with enough awareness, research, and support, this disease will no longer steal lives far too soon.
Every donation, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to that goal. Thank you so much for your support, it truly means the world to me and my family!
