Lindsey Lodge Hospice support the local community in Scunthorpe and the surrounding areas and do fantastic work with live in care and End of life care, which is why I personally know of their amazing work.

I am trying to raise £7,500 to pay for essential vein finding equipment and with the help and support of The Moto Foundation gifting an amazing £5,000 grant I only have £2,500 left to go!

To give you some insight: 5 years ago my Dad (Michael "Mick" Standish) was given a preliminary diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, he was admitted to the hospital surgical ward and spent 3 horrific days in agony with little to no care other than what my family members gave to him. We had been told very little by any of the doctors or nursing staff and the staff nurse in charge of the ward he was on, treated him and us like a hinderance, it was so horrible to watch him fade away in front of our eyes with no care or attention given.

This is when, for the first time his consultant oncologist came to see us and told us my Dad had weeks, if not days left to live and then understood why he was literally just being left to die. The consultant made a few calls and within a few hours he was transferred to Lindsey Lodge Hospice.

This is when everything changed, he was put in a private room with a view, he had everything he needed. The contrast in care was like night and day, nothing was too much for the nursing team, they were there for him but also us as a family. The care that we all received was unfaltering, the care assistants never missed a beat and my Dad actually improved for a few days so that everyone was able to say their goodbyes. Without the amazing people working, volunteering, fund raising and generally being a part of the hospice, we would not be able look back at his last few days with the fond memories we have of him.

My Dad died 15th January 2020 with myself and sister to see him off, with the help of the team in the hospice it was one of the most horrific but at the same time amazing and peaceful things we have been through, my family and I will forever be in their debt for the help they gave leading up to, during and after he died.
