Story
In April 2027, I will be running the London Marathon for Heart UK, and every step will be for my Dad.
Growing up, my Dad once dreamed of running the London Marathon. Year after year he entered the ballot, proudly wearing the jackets and jumpers that came with an unsuccessful application.
Just over a year ago, I started my own running journey, and since then I’ve completed three half marathons. My Dad was always there cheering me on, asking about my training, celebrating every milestone and encouraging me when things felt tough.
Earlier this year, we unexpectedly lost my Dad because of his heart. The loss has been devastating, and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t miss him.
When I was offered a place to run the 2027 London Marathon with Heart UK, I knew I had to say yes.
Heart UK is the UK’s leading cholesterol charity. They provide support, education and awareness about high cholesterol and inherited cholesterol conditions, helping people understand their risk of heart disease and take action before it’s too late. Their work is incredibly important, particularly for families like mine who have experienced the devastating impact that heart disease can have.
Running 26.2 miles will be one of the biggest challenges I’ve ever taken on, but it will also be one of the greatest honours of my life. This marathon is my opportunity to fulfil a dream that meant so much to my Dad, while raising money for a charity dedicated to preventing other families from experiencing the same heartbreak.
If you’re able to donate, no matter how big or small the amount, I would be incredibly grateful. Your support will help Heart UK continue their vital work, and it will help me carry Dad’s dream across that finish line.
Thank you for your support.
For Dad ❤️
