Story

🚵🏼‍♂️The Laureus Coast to Coast Challenge - San Sebastián to Barcelona, June 2026

In June 2026, 14 other riders and I will take on one of the most spectacular cycling challenges in Europe, riding more than 600km from San Sebastián to Barcelona through the heart of the Pyrenees. Over the course of five days, we will climb an incredible 11,359 metres — the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest from sea level and then continuing another 2,500 metres higher, or climbing Ben Nevis nearly nine times — all in aid of Laureus Sport for Good.

Led by Chris Hoy, six-time Olympic gold medallist and 11-time World Champion, this challenge is not just a test of physical endurance; it is a powerful statement that sport changes lives.

Every kilometre ridden and every climb conquered will help raise vital funds to support young people around the world who need it most.

The Challenge

From 8 -12 June 2026, we will ride across five breathtaking stages through northern Spain:

- Day 1: San Sebastián → Navarra - 145km, 3,308m climbing

- Day 2: Navarra → Boltaña - 160km, 2,098m climbing

- Day 3: Boltaña → Cellers - 136km, 2,506m climbing

- Day 4: Cellers → Valbona de Monges - 99km, 1,580m climbing

- Day 5: Valbona de Monges → Castelldefels - 104km, 1,867m climbing

This is not a leisurely tour. It is an extraordinary physical feat, and every rider is committed to making it count.

Why we ride

There has never been a more urgent time to invest in young people. Today, 244 million children are out of school globally. Youth unemployment runs at more than double the adult rate. Violence affects an estimated 1 billion children every year. And 10-20% of young people worldwide are living with mental health challenges.

Sport has the power to change this, and the evidence is clear.

In 2025, Laureus Sport for Good reached over 324,000 lives across 39 countries, a 20% increase on the previous year. With 330 programmes and initiatives supported worldwide, the foundation is delivering real, measurable change at scale.

Across those programmes, 21,244 coaches were trained, with 44% being female, double the number from 2024. 58% of participants were women and girls, up from 51% the year before.

From 164 programmes in Europe to 55 in Africa, 34 in Asia, and 15 each in North America and South America, Laureus is reaching the young people who need hope the most.
