My Dad died of cancer, nearly thirty years ago, aged 47.

In 2012 one of my best mates, Ali died of cancer, aged 37.

My Mum has recovered from breast cancer.

Cancer is indiscriminate, it touches all of us - all of us have a friend or relative who has suffered from this awful disease.

Having had a recent health challenge I have decided to lose a considerable amount of weight and change my lifestyle. In the process I have decided to complete the 100-mile (!) Ride London at the end of May. Those that know me will know how challenging this has been, especially whilst running a business, being the flag-carrier for the hospitality sector and juggling a hectic family life.

I only met Tim [Bacon] once but his impact on the North West (and beyond) hospitality scene is immeasurable. I feel grateful every day to have made a career on the back of his and many others' risks taken and businesses built. I have decided to try to raise money for his foundationin the memory of all those lost to cancer and who are fighting this terrible illness. I hope that what I raise can help make some sort of impact and if you would like to support me at the very worst you can take the Mickey out of me in lycra! [2 1/2 stone down and counting].
