Darc, Ed, Jez, Ted, Lewis and Daryl take on the Jurassic Coast 101km Ultra

Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge 2024 · 18 May 2024 ·
This fundraising page is in memory of Darcey's mother, Kerry Louise Cannon.
Kerry passed away peacefully in the early hours of Monday 22nd January with her family by her side.
To commemorate Kerry's life, Darcey and Ed took part in the Jurassic Coast Marathon on the 18th May, and now are joined by Jeremy and Ted in the final run up to their 101km Mavericks Ultra Marathon on the 19th October. Lewis and Daryl will also be doing the 54km race.
We are fundraising for Alcohol Change, we chose this charity because our Mum struggled with alcoholism for many years, ultimately to her demise. It put a massive strain on our family in all sorts of ways.
The challenge with alcoholism is that it has such a bad brand; the word “alcoholic” conjuring images of the homeless sleeping in shop doorways. But it’s actually unfortunately quite common. 1 in 4 of us drink “more than we should” and 600k people in the UK are dependent drinkers. It’s a nasty one because it impacts the alcoholics loved ones, as well as them - often because they simply cannot see the damage they are doing to themselves and other. No one chooses to become an alcoholic, instead it’s a symptomatic response to bigger underlying (often mental) health issues. We hope that the money and awareness we raise goes towards prevent others from going past the point of no return.
Taking on a monumental challenge felt like the right way to mark mum’s passing. Most of all we remember her as a determined lady who instilled in us a sense of pride in striving for something bigger… we can still hear her saying to us “where there is a will, there is a way” and that mindset has been a cornerstone of who we have both become.
Thank you for your donations, we are truly grateful!!
Love Darc, Ed, Jeremy, Ted, Lewis and Daryl x
