Second time lucky, last year I supported my husband mentally, physically and emotionally to undertake last years event. Sadly, every aspect failed us. He hadn’t realised how much strapping he needed for his wrist strap for his wheelchair control. In addition, to this he was let down by batteries failing and an issue with the steering. Which meant, that we not only failed to make if to the finishing line without others helping push his wheelchair. He was boosted by the emotional support of the crowds and also failed to make our target.

Motor neurone disease (MND) is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting.

MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. Although there is currently no cure for MND, symptoms can be managed to help you achieve the best possible quality of life.

MND Association Patron Rob Burrow CBE sadly died on 2 June 2024, four and a half years after he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease.
