When Lauren told me Hospiscare had named their next fundraising event after the dodgeball club, I knew it had my name on it. Then she said running. RUNNING?! Why did it have to be running? I gathered my nerves and thought: you’ve always wanted to try and run 5km, ask how far it is…

20 miles?! 32,187 METRES!!! That’s over six times the distance you said. It’s 20 miles to Newton Abbot! Wait she hasn’t finished…

THE MOORS?! It’s cross country, through bogs and up a massive 1km incline? Running?

Brilliant.

Then she said: it’ll raise money for Hospiscare.

After 1 month of light training, and a massive surge of self belief: I’ve entered. This non-runner is going to try the toughest fitness challenge of his life. At the time of writing, I can currently run 3.6km and have walked 12km in training. I’ll keep blogging updates here as I go.

If you’d like to wish me more than luck, I do need to try and raise £175 for Hospiscare beforehand. Any well wishes, or donations will be greatly appreciated.

The main thing that will keep me going, is the fond memories of time spent with Papa, mostly chatting late into the evening and putting the world right over the kitchen table. I’m very grateful for the support Hospiscare provided helping Papa feel comfortable, last year. Papa was a wonderful man who is sorely missed. He would always be there to listen, and offer kindness to all. A true Good Samaritan.
