The Lap 2026

GB Railfreight has chosen Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital Charity as their charity partner! The entire team at GB Railfreight will be working together to fundraise for GOSH Charity, we'll be taking on new challenges and touring around the UK.

Story

Two years ago, after seeing an advert on social media, I had the crazy idea of taking on The Lap, which is a 75km/47mile “entry level” ultra marathon around Lake Windermere, to be completed within a 24 hour time period. Having taken part in several Yorkshire 3 peaks challenges, I thought it would be simple! In May last year I completed the circuit in 18h 9m and 49s. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done, if it wasn't for the kindness of those running and walking around me, there is no way I would have been able to complete it.

This now brings me onto 2026! I have somehow been convinced that it would be a good idea to repeat the challenge, this time with my good friend Rob. I definitely feel more prepared this time around with training starting really well.

The company I work for, GB Railfreight, are supporting Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital Charity until the end of 2027. Every penny I raise from this event will go directly towards the build of an early-years learning classroom in the brand new, state of the art cancer center.

More on the charity:

Childhood and cancer. Two words that should never go together

But every week, around five children in the UK lose their lives to cancer. That's five families who are faced with the worst news possible.

A child doesn't have to die from cancer for it to take their life. It can take away their childhood, their opportunities to learn and even to have children of their own one day.

Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) cares for children with the hardest to treat cancers. Were already pushing the boundaries. Pioneering research is underway to find the most effective treatments and cures, which give hope to children and their families.

But these advances have outstripped GOSHs current cancer care facilities, and the hospital needs a new home to create breakthrough therapies which will benefit children all over the world.

Help us build the new Children's Cancer Centre at GOSH and save more children's lives.

If you can help build it, you can help beat it.
