Making Rotherham Minster accessible to all

David Castle is raising money for All Saints Rotherham PCC

Crazy bike ride from Inverness to Sheffield · 12 September 2026

The Minster maintains its ministry in the town centre as a place to meet, to celebrate and to remember. A popular place with the visitors to the coffee mornings in the South Transept and to enjoy the quieter times in the afternoon when a more tranquil air settles over the building.

Story

Rotherham Minster has long been a place that welcomes everyone, and is well established as a significant part of the community in Rotherham.

We welcome everyone, but we have a challenge making parts of this medieval church accessible to those who are physically less able, so we are replacing our defunct lift with a wheelchair-friendly ramp. This will make virtually the whole building accessible to all!

The cost is over £60,000, and although we have a substantial disability grant that covers a large part of this, there is still an estimated shortfall of around £10,000 to find.

Being a Church Warden at the Minster I wanted to help finance this, so at the age of 60 I’m cycling 500 miles from Inverness to Rotherham, starting on Saturday 12 September and ending a week later on Saturday 19 September. All I need to do is raise £20 per mile! Does that sound NUTS?? Will you help this worthy cause? Every little contribution helps!
