Story

I am raising money to help my friend Dymtro Anosov (Дмитро Аносов) send ambulances and paramedic vehicles to the front line in Ukraine.

It is difficult to know how to help in Ukraine and who to trust - what can we do and how to make a difference? I know these vehicles are getting directly to the people who need them, they save lives, they make a difference.

The Ambulances cost about £12,000 each and the 4x4 pickups about £6,000. There are also other costs with getting the vehicles to Ukraine plus the cost of servicing and upgrading, all of which adds £1,000 to £2,500 to the total.

Update November 2023: Since May Dymtro has sent 8 Ambulances and 14 pickups to Ukraine. Thank you to everyone who has helped fund. The work continues and so if you can help it is much appreciated.

Update September 7th: we have received £15,000 direct to CAF - thank you! I am matching the money donated which means over £30,000 is available.

Now that its raining in Ukraine the 4x4s are most useful and the priority for the next vehicles as these can save the most lives on the front line.

More details

Dmytro has been taking aid from the UK to Ukraine since the start of the war. This year he saw the huge need for Ambulances and evacuation vehicles. These are purchased in the UK, then Dmytro and friends drive them to Ukraine and onto the hospitals and paramedics on the front line.

Most of the money was raised in Ukraine but they needed more and I was glad to help. Initially sourcing ambulances was difficult, but this has now been solved and money is now quickly turned into vehicles that are in active use.

I have seen the evidence of the ambulances being delivered and used. I know how much they are valued. I am truly impressed with how Dymtro makes this happen and the passion and energy he puts in. I am very happy to able to help further and if my friends can help as well that would be fantastic!

The first three ambulances were delivered in May. Two more were delivered in June together with two 4x4 pickups for paramedics.

The front-line hospitals receive many (many!) casualties each day and there is a shortage of onward transport that’s needed to get the injured to where they can be helped further. Each ambulance is used non-stop to move both civilians and soldiers. Each ambulance helps many, although if they save just one life it’s worth it.

The ambulances are former NHS vehicles which have reached their 100,000 mile limit but otherwise in good condition and have been serviced properly and maintained. They come with equipment such as stretchers, defibrillators, oxygen equipment etc to make them immediately useful. They need to be in good condition to drive over 3,000 km from the UK and then be used reliably over weeks and months once there.

The paramedic 4x4 evacuation vehicles (pickups) are used closer to the front line eg in the first 5 to 8 km. These often cross minefields and they can use thermal imaging drones to help navigate which Dymtro also wants to provide (I have purchased drones separately from this appeal - if you want to buy a drone this is your chance) .

The 4x4s are also purchased in the UK. They need to be in good condition with good suspension and tyres etc. The 4x4s are service, they have mud tires fitted, new wheel bearings, new brakes, extra lights and some are fitted with night vision. Vehicles are harder to find in countries close to Ukraine and right-hand drive vehicles are surprisingly popular (eg driver not in the sniper target seat!).

The vehicles are sent over with practical donations collected from the Ascot and Sunningdale area which go to orphanages and hospitals. Everything sent is needed and much appreciated.
