Dave Nettleton is raising money for The Richard Whitehead Foundation

Robin Hood Half Marathon 2026 · 27 September 2026 ·

Our Robin Hood Half Marathon team of runners and everyone who donates to help them achieve their fundraising target, will be supporting the Richard Whitehead Foundation to improve the lives of more disabled people!

Story

Why am I doing this?

You may know that I run regularly and try to stay active. However my last Half Marathon was the Robin Hood back in 1992 (i.e. 34 years ago!). I've watched and supported many times, but never felt the urge to run 13.1 miles again... until now.

I wore the same vest 34 years ago in 1992, and like me it's gone a bit grey. Thankfully, the green shorts haven't survived!

Two years ago I was supporting on the steepest section in Wollaton Park, the path in front of the Hall. In the first wave of runners I spotted Richard. He's very tall and stood out amongst the other runners. It was only when he went past that I saw he was on blades and I thought to myself, "Dave, what's your excuse?"

I've had lots of fun around sport and I encourage everyone to have a go. I believe that sport should be accessible to all so I'm very proud to be running for the Richard Whitehead Foundation.

The Richard Whitehead Foundation enables disabled people’s ambitions through the power of sport and physical activity. Everyone should have the opportunity to take on challenges like the Robin Hood Half Marathon.

Your donations contribute to directly to the foundation's Supported Sports Projects, which empower and enable disabled people to take part in running and swimming events with support from a volunteer.

A support runner/swimmer is a volunteer who runs alongside a disabled person to provide physical and emotional support throughout the race. They can help with pacing, motivation, navigation, and responding to any additional needs on the day, ensuring they feel confident and safe from start to finish.

Every £240 raised can help one disabled person take part in a sporting activity or event.

Thank you so much for your support!
