Story
We believe everyone should have the opportunity to take on challenges like the Robin Hood Half Marathon. Your donations contribute to directly to our Supported Sports Projects, which empower and enable disabled people to take part in running and swimming events.
What is a Support Runner?
A support runner is volunteer who runs alongside a disabled person to provide physical and emotional support throughout the race. They can help with pacing, motivation, navigation, and responding to any additional needs on the day, ensuring they feel confident and safe from start to finish.
Claire’s Story
Claire’s experience shows how the right support can transform a daunting challenge into a powerful and positive achievement.
“I cannot thank The Richard Whitehead Foundation enough for supporting runners taking part in the Robin Hood Half Marathon. Without my amazing support runner, Jessica, having my back on the difficult hills, I would never have got round.
My sugars were bouncing around and my support dog Tilly notified me. I started panicking as I could not find a sports drink and the fruit had gone, but Jess remained incredibly calm, positive, and so supportive throughout.”

Thank you for supporting us to enable disabled peoples ambitions in sport!
