Story
Losing a parent is one of the most difficult things a child can ever go through. But imagine going through it during a time when you couldn't receive a hug from a loved one, or have friends and family visit to offer their support.
This was the reality for my son, Seb, who lost his dad, Richard, at the age of 14, during the first major COVID-19 lockdown. We were together when Richard passed away, and I believe that Richard had a "good death". However, Seb's experience as a young bereaved person was far from good. It was just the two of us; we couldn't have anyone over to offer a hug or comforting presence.
At the funeral, we could only invite 30 people, all of whom had to stay two meters apart. There was no opportunity for shared grief or a comforting embrace. This is why I'm so passionate about helping The Children's Bereavement Centre.
This unique and special charity provides a vital lifeline for children and young people aged 3 to 18, and their families, who are facing the terminal illness or death of someone close. They offer the support and guidance young people so desperately need when grieving, a kind of support Seb and I couldn't get when we needed it most.
Please help me support this incredible charity. Your donation can ensure that other children and families get the love and support they need during their darkest times. Thank you.
