Lundy Island Trail Race · 6 July 2025

Right now Animals Asia is constructing its 2nd sanctuary in Vietnam that will save all the moon bears there and end the industry that was pushing them to the edge of extinction; bear bile farming. We just need your help to finish the job.

Story

I am excited to share that I will be participating in the Lundy Island Half Marathon Trail Race on 6th July, at the age of 75, marking 34 years since my first London and New York marathons. This race is recognised as one of the most unique and challenging trail running experiences, covering 13.5 miles across the stunning, remote landscapes filled with pristine wildlife, all thanks to the efforts of the Landmark Trust.

During this incredible journey, I will traverse all four corners of the island, navigating the technical eastern coastal trail and the undulating western clifftops. The experience promises breathtaking views as I cling to the steep slopes before running along the central spine of Lundy Island, with a few side-tracks along the way. It’s possible that my famous blue Lycra will make a comeback—an outfit I have proudly worn in every fundraising event since 1991.

I am running to raise vital funds for "Reach For The Moon," supporting Animals Asia, which is renowned as the world’s leading Moon Bear rescue and rehabilitation organisation. Their mission focuses on rescuing bears farmed for their bile while improving animal welfare across Asia. Founded in 1998, Animals Asia has been rescuing bears since 1994 and operates award-winning sanctuaries in China and Vietnam—the only organisation with a bear sanctuary in China, which we have visited.

The founder and CEO, Jill Robinson MBE, is widely recognised as an authority on combating the cruel bear bile industry and has campaigned tirelessly against it since 1993. We are honoured to be able to call her a friend. Animals Asia promotes compassion and respect for all animals while working towards long-term change through their initiatives aimed at ending bear bile farming and enhancing cat and dog welfare.

I kindly ask for your support by sponsoring me in this endeavour to help Animals Asia continue their important work. Together, we can make a difference for these beautiful creatures who deserve our compassion and protection.

Please donate what you can to help make this dream a reality - and be a part of history as we make sure that no bear is left behind.
