24hr Assault Bike Challenge · 5 July 2025

Ambitious about Autism is the National Charity for autistic children and young people championing their rights and creating opportunities. They stand with autistic children and young people by providing services, raising awareness, understanding and by campaigning for change.

Story

I am going to be attempting to travel as much distance as possible on an assault bike, in 24hrs (continuous), to raise money for Ambitious for Autism.

It's been more than a decade since I attempted my last major physical challenge and this is sure to be a shock to the system when it comes to extreme endurance challenges...! The assault bike is viewed by many as the most savage of all exercise machines, with most people spending less than ten minutes at a time on it. The current world record for the max distance on an assault bike is 687km (426 miles). Whilst I'm not making this an official world record attempt, I am going to try and push as hard as I can to get as close as possible with as few breaks as I can possibly manage.

Autism is something that 10 years ago, I had zero awareness of and a number of misconceptions about. Being a dad to two children who have been diagnosed with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) has taught me so much and opened my eyes to the huge number of people who are often overlooked, misunderstood and can be neglected when it comes to the support that they receive in society. Like most parents, my kids mean the absolute world to me and will be my inspiration when the going gets really tough.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated and anyone who wants to come down to join me for some (or all) of the challenge on a rower, C2 bike, assault bike or ski erg, please reach out! I'll be carrying the attempt out at Funk Training Club in Richmond on Saturday 5th July- huge shout out to the legends at Funk who are supporting the effort!
