Story
Firstly, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and read our story, that alone means so much ❤️
On the 12th July myself and several members of my family, ranging in age from 20's to late 70''s (my mum being the latter and will do whatever she can), will be taking part in a 8 mile walk from Aberdyfi to Tywyn and back again. We are doing this in memory of my nephew Gary who we sadly lost on the 27th March this year and my brother Mark who we lost on the 29th May 2016. Both of these deaths were ultimately the result of alcohol addiction.
We are doing this as part of the Alcohol Change UK Rise and Raise fundraiser which runs through alcohol awareness week 6th to 12th July and hope to raise as much awareness as possible of the serious dangers of alcohol and as well as some much needed funds for the charity, who do their best to make a difference to the families suffering due to the effects of alcohol addiction.
We also want to help try and remove the stigma associated with alcoholics, the notion that they are the lowest of the low and bad people. No person makes a conscious decision to become an alcoholic, there are plethora of reasons of how anyone could find themselves in that situation. None more powerful than mental health issues.
Gary was a kind, intelligent, witty young man, but had such terrible social anxiety issues that led him to self medicate, once the alcohol got it's grip on him, nothing else gave him the peace in his mind that it offered.
Mark was a talented chef and hilarious person to be around, but he was plagued by demons which we never got to understand and again, he only found peace at the bottom of a bottle.
Alcohol addiction ruins lives and tears families apart 💔
If you could spare anything at all to make a donation and support on us our walk it would truly mean the world to us and certainly spur us on! 😀
Thank you again for reading x
