Story
The School of Psychology, Social Work and Public Health at Oxford Brookes University are raising money in memory of our friend and colleague Dr Fiona Matley.
Fiona will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was widely known for her friendly smile, her willingness to help others, and her calm, reassuring nature.
Fiona had been with us at Brookes for many years, as an MSc student, PhD student, and most recently, as a postdoctoral research assistant on the SPACES project to develop and test new alcohol reduction support tools for mid-life women. Fiona’s incredible enthusiasm and organization skills were integral to the project.
Fiona was passionate about her work and dedicated to making a difference to the lives of others. Fiona’s PhD research focused on understanding how to help people to drink less alcohol, breaking down barriers including stigma and challenging social norms. We have chosen Alcohol Change UK because they supported Fiona's research, and because they work for a society that is free from the harm caused by alcohol. Fiona also supported Cancer Research UK and Weston Hospicecare if you would like to donate to a different charity in her name.
