Help families devastated by Nepal’s catastrophic glacier-triggered floods
On 26 August 2026, a catastrophic glacier-triggered flash flood swept through northern Nepal, carrying a powerful surge of water, mud, rocks and debris into communities including Rasuwa and Nuwakot.
As of 5 September 2026, at least 1,300 people have died and more than 5,000 remain missing. Homes, roads, bridges, hydropower facilities and essential services have been destroyed. Many survivors are injured, bereaved, displaced or cut off from vital assistance.
Healthcare access has been severely disrupted, while rescue teams face blocked roads, collapsed bridges, unstable debris and the challenge of reaching workers feared trapped inside damaged tunnels. Affected communities urgently need medical assistance, safe drinking water, emergency shelter and essential relief supplies.
Yet amid this devastation, there is still hope. Survivors have recently been rescued alive from collapsed buildings and blocked hydropower tunnels around ten days after the disaster. These extraordinary rescues demonstrate the importance of continuing search-and-rescue operations while there remains a possibility of finding more people alive.
As a survivor of the devastating 2015 Nepal earthquake, I understand personally the fear, loss and helplessness experienced when disaster strikes without warning. That experience has inspired my continued involvement in rescue advocacy and humanitarian initiatives in Nepal and internationally.
Now, as a doctor working in the UK, I feel a personal and professional responsibility to stand with those affected. I hope this appeal will unite healthcare professionals, their families, friends and the wider UK public in supporting Nepal.
All donations made through this page, including Gift Aid where applicable, will go directly to the Nepalese Doctors Association UK (NDAUK)—a registered UK charity (No. 1170381) with a longstanding commitment to healthcare, medical assistance and disaster relief in Nepal.
This fundraising initiative has been formally approved by NDAUK. A London-based University NHS Trust has also granted permission for the appeal to be shared within its healthcare community. This permission does not constitute formal NHS or Trust endorsement of the fundraiser.
