Story
In November of this year I’ll be taking on the 120km HMDS ultra marathon event in Egypt to raise money for Guernsey Mind.
The event is a 3 day self sufficient race through the Fayoum area of the Sahara Desert with the 120km being split with 25-30k on the first day, 60k on the second and another 25-30k on the last day with a break between the second and third day of running.
I completed my first ultra in May in the local GU36 race and decided that for my next race I wanted it to be quite a step up and this has given me the perfect opportunity to raise money for a local charity that supports causes that I’m sure many on the island have been deeply affected by at some point.
Unfortunately many struggle in silence and feel helpless in the face of the issues they might be dealing with. As the island sadly knows too well this can lead to tragic circumstances. Guernsey Mind do an amazing job at providing the support and awareness needed to help those struggling with these issues and it’s important we keep these types of charities going as well as we can.
See below for a link to Guernsey Mind’s website to see more details on the great work they do. I’ve also put a link below to more details of the race if you wanted to find out more. I have an instagram page to track my training for this as well if you’re interested :) @drewkeepsrunning
