Story

I'm running the Durham Run 2025 in aid of St Cuthbert's Hospice, this is my story...

So, I'm back again. Last year I did the Great North Run and you all helped me raise an incredible amount for the Hospice and I'm here to ask for your help for the third time of the Durham 10km.

It will be 8 years this year (and you may know the story by now :D ) since my cousin-in-law Andy and my cousin Steven all did the Great North run. And what a day that was. Andy had done the full training, me, half because of work and Steven, enough to help him finish. We all celebrated with coffee and donuts.

We lost Andy in August 2020 to Thyroid cancer and I so wish Andy was here. He is my hero. The GNR was one of the best races I did. So many memories.

I only ever met Andy once, but He was an incredible person. So positive through his cancer journey I loved his updates on social media, even though he was going through a terrible time he found away to get through it and he also kept my spirits up when I struggled with my health. One day he told me to 'Keep on trucking' and I'm still trying to do my best.

Andy passed away peacefully in St Cuthbert's Hospice. I want to support the charity for all the help they have given our family as my Uncle Gerry passed away there to in 2010. I'm sad to say I didn't know him but would like to say thank you to the hospice for looking after him to.

This has become my main race in the year as I want to say thank you to the Hospice and I want to dedicate This year's race to my Uncle Gerry and to Andy as he was such an inspiration and I also want to give back to the Hospice for all the support they gave our Andy and Karen during his illness.

So please, if you can, help me raise tons of cash for this special hospice that does so much for so many people.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart

Helen xxx

About the Hospice:

St Cuthbert’s Hospice provides specialist care to people with life-limiting illnesses, people approaching the end of life and the bereaved. We make no charge for our services, ensuring Hospice care is available to everyone. It costs over £2 million each year to keep St Cuthbert's Hospice running.

Everyone who comes to us is an individual and so their care should be individual too. Our multi-professional team consists of specially trained doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, social workers and counsellors. They all work collaboratively to make sure all patients can discuss their needs and wishes when spending time with us. Find out more about our care or have a look around the Hospice:
