Hi, my name is Dylan, and I’m proud to be taking part in the Great North Run to raise money for Ashgate Hospice.

This cause is very personal to me. In 2017, my gran, Jackie Laver, sadly passed away from cancer just 90 days after her diagnosis. During the final stage of her life, she received incredible end-of-life care at Ashgate Hospice, and the support they gave to her and our family meant everything to us. I remember on the first day the tea ladies asked her what her favourite tipple was, that afternoon they appeared with a bottle of Bacardi and cans of coke, from that moment you knew they would keep her pain free and retain her dignity. We have a lot to thank them for.

Nine years ago, I wasn’t a runner like I am today. Taking on the Great North Run now feels like a meaningful way to honour my gran’s memory, and to give something back to a place that gave us so much during such a difficult time.

Ashgate Hospice provides vital care and support to people with life-limiting illnesses and their families, and relies heavily on donations to continue their work.

Great North Run 2026's #TeamAshgate is full of wonderful runners this year, all working hard to raise money for Ashgate Hospice.

We provide specialist palliative care for people with life-limiting illnesses across North Derbyshire. Ashgate Hospice also provides support for the families of those we care for, and all our services are available in the community, patients own homes, and in our 21-bed in-patient unit located in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.
