Story
26.2 Miles. One Mission. Zero Waste.
On Sunday, 15th February, I will stand on the start line of the Sevilla Marathon knowing that this isn’t just about pace, time, or medals. It’s about food.
Every day in the UK, perfectly good food is thrown away while families struggle to put meals on the table. The Felix Project rescues surplus food that would otherwise go to waste and delivers it to charities, schools and community organisations supporting people in need.
The Sevilla Marathon is 26.2 miles of discipline, early mornings, long training runs, tired legs and mental resilience. But that effort is small compared to what many families face every day:
1 in 4 families in the UK report regularly struggling to feed their families
There is enough edible food wasted in the UK every year to feed the entire population 3 meals a day for 11 weeks.
In London, 1 in 5 children are growing up in poverty, including food insecurity. In the boroughs surrounding Citi (Tower Hamlets and Newham) this rises drastically to 1 in 2.
Globally, food waste contributes to around 8-10% of all annual greenhouse gas emissions.
If food waste were a country, it would be the third largest contributor to climate change.
Felix Project are out in front, tackling the problem of food waste
Your donation will help:
Rescue fresh, nutritious food before it’s wasted
Deliver meals to families, children and vulnerable people
Support a smarter, more sustainable food system
If food exists, it should feed people — not landfills.
Some thoughts from those who have benefitted the most from the work that Felix undertake:
"It’s no exaggeration to say Felix Project food is the glue that holds the wellbeing of our community together. We give to those in financial, health, social and emotional need. " - Community Manager @ a Felix Community Organisation.
"Without Felix deliveries we couldn’t survive, it’s as simple as that, we would have to close as we could not afford to provide anything like the range and quality of food that is delivered. As with most small charities our core costs have increased a lot recently, so it would be impossible to keep providing the different food items that we receive." - Volunteer @ Felix Community Organisation
“Thinking and worrying about money all the time isn’t easy. I never thought I would have to worry about having enough for the children to eat. There was one point we just didn’t have enough for the pre-paid gas meter, so we had to go without that for more than a week. It’s been a real strain.” - Mother at partner school
“It is really helpful and parents and families are really benefitting”. The weekly market stall is popular and each week there is a fantastic community feel and buzz with a regular group of parent volunteers organising the stall. Through this programme children were having first-hand experience with vegetables they often didn’t have in their home." - Headteacher at partner school
Please support my run and help turn every mile into meals for those who are in need.
