Story
The Giraffe Project supports some of the neediest children in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya with education. Giraffe Helps Children "Walk Tall into their Future".
Hristo Hristov, teacher at Eeb4, Richard and Denise Baines, teachers at Eeb4 until 2021 are running to raise funds to
- educate children and young teenagers from the Kibera, Mathare North and Dandora slums who need help to escape poverty, and
- improve Primary Schools in the slums where they live.
Please help us by sponsoring us and leaving a message of encouragement!! Every donation helps!
This year we also run in memory of our dear friend and Giraffe colleague: Jürgen Könemann.
Jürgen passed away from cancer last year. Jürgen came to Kenya with in 2012 and quickly became a committed advocate for the kids he met. He loved to engage with ordinary Kenyans and became well loved by all. He served as a Trustee, Fundraiser and Sponsor and his critical eye and constructive advice are sorely missed.
The charity funds over 400 students currently thanks to it's sponsorship scheme but we want to help more of those who apply each year for help.
Denise and Richard started The Giraffe Project charity after they saw firsthand in 2005 how kids in the Nairobi slums are being excluded from schools, just because they had no one to pay the cost of education for them. This means that they are condemned to a future of poverty and uncertainty. For the girls it often means early pregnancy due to sexual abuse or teenage marriage.
The Giraffe Project was set up by Richard and Denise to sponsor these children through school and on into training in skills and qualifications for life.
Thanks so much for your interest and support
