We are passionate about nurturing women and girls living in dire poverty and in war zones. We provide the materials, tools, training and support to manufacture period pads and nappies. We restore dignity where it has been lost. Our core values are education, empowerment and equality.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Every year an intrepid gang of fabulous women challenge themselves to raise money for one of the most personal and powerful little charities for women in the UK, and this year, hearing about the charity’s incredible work, I was eager to join them.

Why we walk:

None of us can change the world, but if we can even just in some small way make life more bearable for girls and women living in unimaginable conditions today that's got to be worth a try.

Loving Humanity is a simple idea - a small family run British charity that provides at-cost period pad micro-factories to some of the poorest communities in the world, to restore dignity where it has been lost.

Amy Peake is the founder of Loving Humanity, the non-profit organisation working to provide reusable nappies and pads to women and mothers in war zones, refugee camps and slums. Their ethos is shaped around education, empowerment and equality, and they’re doing some great work elevating vulnerable communities.

The factories are staffed by refugee or vulnerable local women who, through their work, find or rediscover their self-worth. Amy’s journey to put a stop to period poverty in third world countries has been met with obstacle after obstacle but she has persevered and has achieved a great deal since she founded the business in 2014.

It's hard to cut through…

It's always so hard to know where any donation really goes and how much it actually helps those that so desperately need it. Preparing for this challenge with the charity founder Amy Peake herself gives us all a real grasp of just how powerful every donation is for her small but vital charity.

I normally feel a bit uncomfortable asking people to make donations to things but I absolutely know that the money raised directly from this walk will directly empower Amy's project on the edge of Gaza, where surely we must do anything we can to send love, support and aid.

If you even have £5 to spare trust me it will be going to make a real and genuine difference to women's lives out there.

At the end of 2023 working with the Red Cross Amy's team managed to get some washable sanitary pads into Gaza and they are in the process now of buying new washable materials for her pad project in Jordon with a view to supplying 1000 washable pads into Gaza there as soon as they can. That's 1000 women you could be directly helping with your donation...

This years challenge :

This May we are off to scale Ben Nevis. At 1345m high and with you never quite know what you’re going to get conditions(!) it’s an epic challenge for a bunch of middle aged women with creaky knees and bunions (I speak for myself!).

A little more about Loving Humanity from Amy herself:

Educationally, the impact of our pads is significant with schoolgirls reporting that they are now able to attend school instead of missing several days a month, this has resulted in their test scores increasing by up to two-thirds, some girls have retaken a year’s education to catch up again and they feel confident to attend school knowing they will be comfortable.

Financially, the washable sanitary pad kits (containing 3 shields and 9 inserts) last the girls and women 5 years or more

All your love and support in this years challenge would be so very gratefully received.

Thank you so much!
