Eleanor Jolliffe is raising money for Bat Conservation Trust

Tandem skydive · 1 August 2026

We are the leading non-governmental organisation in the UK solely devoted to the conservation of bats and the landscapes on which they rely. Everything we do works towards our vision of a world rich in wildlife where bats and people thrive together.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I will be taking on a tandem skydive to raise much-needed funds for the Bat Conservation Trust (BCT) on 1 August 2026! So that I can take on this slightly crazy challenge, I need your help to raise a minimum of £400 by 20 July 2026, but I’d love to raise £1,000 to help support bat conservation! Plus, your support will mean that I get to fly in the sky, just like a bat! 🦇

I have always had an enthusiasm for wildlife. Since I started working for the BCT back in 2022, my interest in and appreciation for bats has only gotten stronger! As BCT’s Fundraising Officer, I support our fundraisers, as well as seeking out exciting challenges for our supporters to get involved with. By taking on this skydiving challenge for bats myself, I’ll be putting all that I’ve learned about fundraising so far into practice, but most excitingly, I’ll be doing something I’ve never done before whilst raising funds for our bat species!

First, a little bit about bats and BCT:

Bats are fascinating animals – the only true flying mammal. There are 1,500 species of bats in the world (as of September 2025), and more are still being discovered. Bats account for more than a quarter of mammal species in the UK and around 20% of all mammal species worldwide. Bats play an important role in many habitats around the world. In the UK, some bats are ‘indicator species’, because changes to these bat populations can indicate changes in aspects of biodiversity. Additionally, as top predators of nocturnal insects, they can help keep populations of insects that damage crops and gardens in check.

Sadly, our bat populations have declined considerably over the last century. Bats are still under threat from building and development work that affects roosts, loss of habitat, the severing of commuting routes by roads and threats in the home including cat attacks, flypaper and some chemical treatments of building materials. Other potential threats can include wind turbines and lighting if they are sited on key bat habitats or near roosts. This is where BCT comes in!

BCT is the leading non-governmental organisation in the United Kingdom solely devoted to the conservation of bats and the landscapes on which they rely. BCT’s vision is a world rich in wildlife where bats and people thrive together.

By helping me reach my target of £1,000, you will, in turn, be helping BCT achieve their vision.

Thank you for your support! 🦇
