Story
I’m taking part in SameYou’s March for March challenge - moving 31km throughout March for Brain Injury Awareness Month.
Recovery after brain injury isn’t just physical. Many survivors face emotional challenges, isolation and long gaps in support once formal rehabilitation ends. SameYou works to change that by developing programmes, resources and communities that help people feel connected, supported and understood.
Five years ago this month I suffered a sub arachnoid hemorrhage from which I was very lucky to survive, many do not. I am even luckier in that I have by and large been able to return to a life very similar to that I lived before the brain bleed. There have been many challenges on my road to recovery, many of which from the brain injury I am still learning to live with now. Sponsored events normally focus on major challenges, major feats of effort. For those recovering from brain injuries (and other illnesses of course) sometimes just having the energy to complete a day is an achievement in itself. This is why I am taking part in this event, which takes account of the good and bad days us stroke survivors face.
This challenge is inclusive and adaptable - whether I walk, wheel, move slowly or take rest days along the way, every step counts.
If you’re able to, please consider donating and supporting brain injury recovery. Your support will help SameYou continue building innovative recovery programmes and supportive spaces for survivors and families.
Thank you so much for being part of this journey 💛
