💛 Running for Harrison — Cardiff Half Marathon 2026 🏃‍♂️

I never thought I’d be signing up to run a half marathon.

In fact, anyone who knows me will probably tell you that running is pretty far down my list of things I enjoy! 😂

But sometimes, something comes along that gives you a reason to push yourself beyond what you thought you were capable of.

For me, that reason is Harrison.

Harrison is my daughter Sophia’s little brother, and although he may not be my son, he has very quickly become a hugely important part of our family.

Harrison was diagnosed with spina bifida (myelomeningocele) before he was born. What followed has been a journey that none of us could have ever prepared for — including fetal surgery, his arrival 10 weeks premature, and 9½ weeks in neonatal care.

It has been an incredibly difficult and emotional journey for Harrison, his parents and our whole family. But through everything, we have seen just how important the right support can be.

And that is where Shine has become so important to us. 💛

Shine supports families living with spina bifida and hydrocephalus, providing advice, reassurance, practical support and, perhaps most importantly, the feeling that you aren’t facing this journey alone.

We have experienced first-hand what that support means.

And that’s why on 4 October 2026, I’ll be taking on the Cardiff Half Marathon to raise money for Shine and to give something back to a charity that is helping Harrison and our family.

I’ll be joined by Harrison’s Dad, and other members of the family, making this something much bigger than just my own challenge.

But when the running gets tough, I’ll have one thing in my mind:

Harrison.

Every painful mile, every bit of training, every moment where I question why on earth I signed up for this 😂 — it will all be for him.

I’m running for a little boy who has already shown more strength and determination in the first few months of his life than most people will ever have to find.

I’m also running for the families who will receive a spina bifida diagnosis tomorrow, next month or next year.

Because they deserve the same support, advice and reassurance that Shine has given us.

I’m not a runner.

But I am Harrison’s family.

And if running 13.1 miles can help Shine continue supporting families like ours, then every step will be worth it.
