Story
On 26 April 2026 I'm running the London Marathon for Hospice UK.
Training for a marathon isn't easy! I'm doing it because I want to support the case for hospice care for all who need it.
I’m also remembering those supported by hospice care in recent times. Two particular people I want to name are firstly my wonderful Dad who was supported by the incredible community team at Wigan and Leigh hospice in 2023. Secondly the lovely Dot, my sisters mother in law and part of our extended family who recently was amazingly cared for at the end of life by Kirkwood Hospice. I’m sure many of you have similar stories and I’d love to remember them too when I run.
Hospice care eases the symptoms of death and dying, letting people focus on living, right until the end. Sadly too many miss out on this essential care. I see firsthand working at a hospice the pressures in the system and the unmet need. Hospice UK champions for hospice care for all who need it, now and forever.
As the national champion for hospices, Hospice UK supports over 200 hospices across the UK, helping them deliver the best, most personalised care to 310,000 people each year. But hospices are underfunded and under immense pressure.
Your support can make a difference. Donate to my page and join me in remembering those supported by hospice care so far and promoting and protecting hospice care for all in the future.
