A while ago I sent a message to an online chat, pre-emptively apologising for wasting their time, but asking if some of the things I was experiencing may fall under the domestic abuse umbrella. The help and support I have received from that day onwards has been phenomenal. I haven't once felt judged, or pathetic, or as though I'm wasting someone's time, or like I'm the problem. I have been met with a listening ear, support, encouragement and information to help me.

Without IDAS, I wouldn't have found the strength or knowledge I needed to end my abusive relationship. I'm still working with them, and I know the road is going to be long but I'm making the steady steps I need to make, with my incredible support worker holding my hand.

I would love to raise some money for IDAS, as my way of giving back, even just a little. Running has become a kind of therapy for me, and it seems fitting, for a thousand reasons, that the opportunity to run for IDAS has appeared.

IDAS is the largest specialist charity in Yorkshire, supporting women, men and children who have been subjected to domestic abuse in York, North Yorkshire, Barnsley, and Sheffield. They provide safe accommodation in Doncaster, and support to victims and survivors of sexual violence across North Yorkshire. Their services include a free, confidential helpline, one-to-one and group support in their local communities, and emergency refuge accommodation.

Each year IDAS receives 27,000 referrals, answers 32,500 helpline calls, supports more than 11,000 people in their local communities, and accommodates 250 individuals families in their emergency refuge accommodation.
