Story
On Friday 3 July, I’ll be walking 20 miles (The Big Walk) in support of lung disease research at the University of Sheffield.
On the day, myself and a throng of colleagues will be bussed out of the city to the countryside.
Once we arrive in the countryside, we get off the bus and walk back to the city, slowing every mile or so for a biscuit/satsuma/can of lilt.
It sounds relatively straight forward, but I've never walked 20 miles in a day before and I have concerns about footwear.
I would really appreciate it if you sponsored me, because:
1. It is for a very good cause (lungs)
2. I respond well to social pressure and am therefore less likely to quit.
If you could see your way to throwing a fiver or tenner my way, it all adds up, and this is what your sponsorship will go towards...
The Research:
Support the Big Walk 2026 at University of Sheffield and help to move safe lung scanning technology from the lab into the hands of doctors who are caring for children with lung conditions.
For a baby born before 32 weeks, breathing is a battle. A third of these infants are at risk of developing lung disease. Because standard scans use radiation that is too dangerous for these babies, doctors are forced to treat them without seeing the full picture. Your support will remove the need for guess work and provide parents with the reassurance that they need.
You’ll help to improve imaging technology for children who desperately need it. For a child suffering with cystic fibrosis or asthma, you are providing the technology that will shape a healthier future.
Thank you.
